Refrain

Name-that-tune memory trainer for iPhone

Privacy Policy

Refrain (“the app”) is designed to respect your privacy. Here’s what we do and don’t do with your data.

What We Access

Apple Music — The app uses Apple’s MusicKit to search the Apple Music catalog and play song clips during study sessions. We never read your personal music library, listening history, or playlists unless you explicitly choose to import a playlist. Apple Music requests are handled by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy.

Notifications — If you enable the daily reminder, the app schedules a local notification on your device. Nothing is sent through any server.

On-Device Storage — Your decks, study progress, streaks, and settings are stored locally on your device using Apple’s SwiftData framework. This data never leaves your device and is deleted when you delete the app.

AI Deck Generation

AI deck generation runs entirely on your iPhone using Apple’s on-device AI. It requires iOS 26 or later and Apple Intelligence enabled with its model ready. AI prompts and generation results are not sent to our servers or a cloud AI provider. When on-device AI is unavailable, you can create a deck manually or import an Apple Music playlist.

What We Don’t Do

Data Storage

All study data stays on your device. There is no cloud sync, no server-side database, and no backup to our servers. Deleting the app deletes all of its data. You can also clear data inside the app under Settings ▸ Data & Privacy.

Children

Refrain does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address and the date below will be updated.
